Updated with a Listing of All the Topics. For easy Reference This will be used to Log the Shian Saturday Campaign from past to present as migrated over from Google Groups. ============== As per earlier note by Eugene, if you want to know your current XP, note that it will be more or less as follows (since the percentage is rounding up), you can get the XP value by referring to page 29 of the PHB1. Observe that if say level 4 is 3,750 XP and level 5 is 5,500 XP. Hence XP required to level up is 5,500 - 3,750 = 1,750 XP At 32% XP 4, you would have = 3,750 + 1,750 x 32% = 4,310 XP. Yes, the XP values are weird, I know, but that's the way it has always been. So I'd rather stick to just giving percentages. ============== Campaign Log Goblins! - 3 Log Page 10.1 Caravan Attack - Lv 4 0.2 Goblin Tower I & II 0.3 Goblin Tower III & Reward Flotsam - 4 1.0 Missing People in Flotsam 1.1 Investigation, Thugs, Guards 1.2 Warehouse Rescue - Lv 51.3 The Elder's Home Berklin Slavers - 5 2.0 Tracking the Slavers 2.1 Slavers Hideout 2.2 Framed & Jailbreak 2.3 The Formation and the Shining Cloud - Lv 62.4 Fleeing Berklin & Rescuing the Captain The Spiderhaunt - 4 3.0 Into the Spiderhaunt 3.1 Beneath the Surface 3.2 Shadowed Demesne - Lv 7( 15 Sessions in Page 1 ) Log Page 23.3 True Colors - GM: Chee YongBack on the Trail - 4 4.0 Just Rewards 4.1 Moonlighting 4.2 Rough Tidings - Lv 84.3 Warm Welcome Joining the Violet Eye - 5 5.0 New Employment 5.1 Raging Reception 5.2 Soulful Audience - Lv 95.3 Plotting Hook 5.4 Springing the Trap Tiefling Spy - 3 6.0 Of Songs, Syringes & Solidarity 6.1 Double Agents 6.2 Mucking Around - Lv 10Wizard's Tower - 6 7.0 Compounded Challenges 7.1 Of Fire and Ice - GM: Shaun( 15 Sessions in Page 2 ) Log Page 37.2 Stone to Flesh, Acid-Style - GM: Shaun7.3 A Hot & Sticky Situation - Lv 117.4 Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust 7.5 Night of the Living and the Dead Island of the Blackharts - 6 8.0 Mucking Around II 8.1 Blackhart Island - Lv 128.2 There and Back Again 8.3 Guardians & Mirrors 8.4 Heart of the Blackhart 8.5 Our Hart will Go On Tomb of Queen Valytha - 5 9.0 Fade to Kray - Lv 139.1 Worming with Fishbait 9.2 An Overflowing Balance 9.3 Guardians of the Tomb 9.4 Burning Bridges ( 15 Sessions in Page 3 ) Log Page 4Undercover No More - 3 10.0 Unwanted Interference - Lv 1410.1 The Haunting 10.2 Down to Earth Watching Capt Ardon - 3 11.0 In Defense of the Empire 11.1 Unto the Breach - GM: Rubern11.2 Assassins - Lv 15Journey to Shian City - 5 12.0 Plagued 12.1 Grave Affliction 12.2 The Heat is On 12.3 A Purposeful Plague 12.4 Waylaid - Lv 16Shian City - 4 13.0 The Troubled Heart of the Empire 13.1 Cheating Death ( 13 Sessions in Page 4 ) Log Page 513.2 Regicide 13.3 Vengeance of the Betrayed Succession - 2 (excluding XX.X) 14.0 The Stolen Birthright - Lv 1714.1 The End of the Line XX.X Trailblazer Playtest - GM: Shaun ( no log entry ) (Hereon, Level is a reflection of Party Level ) To Eclipse an Eclipse - 5 (excluding XX.X) 15.0 New Reign and New Challenges - GM: Merlvyn15.1 Opening Waves - GM: Merlvyn15.2 Four Gems for Three Legs - GM: Merlvyn15.3 On the Last Leg - Lv 18 / GM: MerlvynXX.X Interlude - Monsters Inc 15.4 Mission Impossible Remix - Lv 20 / GM: MerlvynShadowfell - 3 16.0 The Shadowfell 16.1 The Ghost of Nightshadow 16.2 The Spire of Kalidnay - Lv 21Adventures in Athas - 3 17.0 The Dark Sun 17.1 A Wild World - GM: Andy( 14 Sessions in Page 5 ) Log Page 617.2 Successful Rescue - Lv 22Nightwyrm Fortress - 3 18.0 The Return of the King 18.1 Burning Frost - Lv 2318.2 Tormented Darklord - Lv 24Invasion of Nightshadow - 2 19.0 Angelic Saviours - Lv 2519.1 Travails of the Sorcerer-King - Lv 26Death's Unrest - 7 20.0 The Beleaguered Raven 20.1 The Crossroads of Life & Death 20.2 Two Sides of the Same Coin 20.3 Flailing Flayers - Lv 2720.4 Sweet Vengeance - Lv 2820.5 Gone in Six Seconds - Lv 2920.6 Not Worth Undying For - Lv 30The Bastion of Unborn Souls - 1 21.0 The Bad, the Good, and the Beautiful =================== Total Sessions : 86 Sessions (excluding two XX.X) EDIT : included the Level Up points in the Log, and tracked the Sessions for Leveling. 0.1 Caravan Attack 11-Feb-12 The Heroes' patron, Captain Haemon of Zeychand, tasked them with investigating attacks on supply caravans that were travelling from Zeychand to West Garrison. They were to ensure the safety of the caravan while finding out the source of the attacks, and eventually eliminating it. The Heroes asked for some soldiers to also accompany the Caravan, and they were attacked during their camp at night. Despite being surprised and faced with unfavourable terrain, the Heroes prevailed, saving 3 of the 6 soldiers in the process. After escorting the caravan to West Garrison, the Heroes returned and by sheer good fortune found the tracks of fleeing goblins leading them to an ruined Tower along the forested borders between the Shian Empire and the Elves of Amareld. The tower likely housed a large force of goblins and hobgoblins, and the Heroes contemplated how to deal with such numbers.

0.2 Goblin Tower I & II 18-Feb-12 The Heroes, uncertain of victory, sent the Military tracker that accompanied them from West Garrison to send for help in case it should be required.
The Heroes then attempted to scout out the Tower, but were discovered in the process, yet they boldly turned the setback into a heroic all-out assault against the Goblins. The rank-and-file runts on the first floor were easily taken out by them, and then they survived a staged shooting gallery intended to pincushion them, burning the gallery platform and forcing the Goblin Spellcaster to retreat to the top of the tower. Along the way, they spared the lives of a Goblin and a Hobgoblin. Now, only the third level remains - what awaits them there? At least "Big Bad" and "Small Bad", along with 8 goblins and 2 bugbears, or so they were told...

0.3 Goblin Tower III & Reward 25-Feb-12 After a brief rest, the Heroes courageously dared the third level of the ruined tower. They fell victim to a trap then came under attack by hobgoblins and a stealthy yet fearsome Bugbear Strangler, yet they managed to overcome all their enemies, and even prevented the escape of the Hobgoblin Hexer. For their efforts, they obtained the magical staff used by the Hexer, as well as other treasure. One of the Heroes insisted on carrying the body of the dead Hexer with them in the hope of getting clues.
Along the way out, they were stopped by Elves of Amareld concerned about the use of the Ruined Tower by the forces of the Shian Empire. In order to leave unmolested, the party agreed to a Geas, where they promised not to divulge the location of the tower to anyone unless the lives of the people were endangered by activities originating from the Tower. In return, the Elf Captain promised that he would not use the Tower for purposes that might endanger the lives of the people of the Shian Empire.
Returning back to Zeychand, they were rewarded by Captain Haemon, who had no interest in raising the dead Hexer. For their next quest, Haemon suggested they visit Captain Jan in West Garrison who had received reports about missing people in Flotsam, a port-village near to the West Garrison.
1.0 Missing People in Flotsam 25-Feb-12 After some persuasion, Captain Jan promised a handsome reward of 500 Gp for solving the mystery of missing people in Flotsam. He too had no interest in the stinking corpse of the dead goblin, but one of the Heroes clung on to it doggedly. The Heroes arrived in Flotsam and met the village head Elder Chadwick, who showed no inclination to investigate the causes of missing people, and downplayed the disappearances as incidental. He was seemed more concerned about ensuring the place ran smoothly. The party then headed to the Dancing Tide Inn near the Docks to find information, while the lone Hero carrying the Hexer's corpse finally located a Ritualist to speak to the dead goblin, paying 370 Gp out of his own pocket for it.

1.1 Investigation, Thugs, Guards 03-Mar-12After asking around the Dancing Tide Inn, the Heroes gathered that the Docks were recently considered unsafe after dark. They deliberated about whether to split the party so as to attract aggression, or to gather together and pretend to be drunk, and settled on the safer way of staying together. Fortunately their act was convincing enough to get them sprung on by some thugs. After some "vigilante justice", the Heroes interrogated the hoodlums and found they were sent by one halfling named Kray to "recruit" more labour, and they had met with him outside a large warehouse at the far west end of Flotsam. Approaching the warehouse, the Heroes tried initially to bluff past the guards, but their appearance soon had them recognised. Hitherto unseen reinforcements jumped the party from the nearby alleyways, yet they managed to prevail, thought they naturally lost any element of surprise they might have had on those in the warehouse. 1.2 Warehouse Rescue 17-Mar-12 After blocking off the warehouse's backdoor, the Heroes heroically entered through the front doors to confront the Slavers. The Half-Orc Slaver within warned them to lay down their arms or he would hurt the hostages. Although the party Wizard managed to save a hostage from a nasty fall, another hostage was crushed under a crate, and bled to a slow death while the Heroes were too busy fending off the sneaky assailants. Eventually the Heroes won and rescued 2 out of 3 hostages, but the halfling named Kray managed to escape after knocking out a Hero at the front door. The Heroes gathered from the captured half-orc that the halfling Kray was in charge here and the half-orc was a superviser, and that Slaves were moved in groups of 6 or so via a boat to the city of Berklin to be sold as forced labour to ship captains. They missed a chance to find the location of the Slaver's hidden boat when the Village Guard arrived, heard from the Hostages and took the Slavers into custody. Later, as Elder Chad of Flotsam was thanking the party for their help, some Heroes realised he was lying about his knowledge of the Slaver activities, and plotted to investigate his home for clues. They also found themselves too busy to return to Capt Jan for a reward, since the boat arranged by the Elder for them to travel to Berklin and carry on their investigations had just arrived.

1.3 The Elder's Home 31-Mar-12 The Heroes knew the Elder was lying when he claimed ignorance of slayers and when saying he was pleased with their victory, so two of them searched the Elder's home while he was out for dinner. Apart from very old personal letters, they found Deeds to most of the land the village was on, including the Dancing Tide Inn and the Warehouse. There was also a box with a Spider inside, containing very precious gems amounting to a few thousand GP, and a single large iron key. There was nothing incriminating so everything was returned in order to the locked drawer. After asking around, they found the Elder is non-native to this area, and the village only prospered after he came. He used to have a wife and son, but his wife passed away a long time ago and his son left the village as well. With no conclusive evidence on hand and passage to Berklin could not be further delayed, they chose to sail to Berklin.
They were treated well during the voyage and met their fellow traveller, a noble with 2 guards, Lord Marlon Merenthis Councillor of Foreign Relations & Trade. After an exchange of "pleasantries" about their past record and the slavers, Lord Marlon provided the Heroes the name of a merchant called Merlot, who they might ask regarding Slaver matters. Lord Merenthis also asked that when they return to the West Garrison, they could assist some Elves in the Southern stretch of the Forest, and handed them a letter to Lady Aribeth of the Elves. They were not to disturb him again until after the task was done.

2.0 Tracking the Slavers 07-Apr-12 Arriving in the West quarter of Berklin, the Heroes paid their respects at a Temple of Avandra, and followed up to meet Merlot the wine merchant. He agreed to provide information if the Heroes could help him reclaim a disputed payment of 300 Gp from a dwarf merchant called Crag Anvil, and the case has been under inconclusive "investigation" for a few months. The Heroes tried but failed to secure firm information without breaking the law and being seen as hoodlums, but in exchange for leaving him alone, Crag told them to look around the Black Swell Inn. There one of them posed as a mine owners seeking "manpower", and bought a ship Captain and his crew 2 rounds of drinks. In return, the Captain told him to go to an address and find a Dragonborn named "Greenbeard" who could help him with his "staffing" issues.
The Heroes arrived but their ruse was easily foiled as the guards could see there were Paladins of Avandra accompanying. A fierce fight ensued outside the brick house where the heroes emerged victorious, though the ruckus surely alerted those inside the house to their presence.

2.1 Slavers Hideout 14-Apr-12 Entering the two-storey brickhouse, the Heroes found themselves engaged against well-disciplined mercenaries, including a crossbow sniper and a cunning wizard in a cloak and hood. After some pain, they proceeded upstairs, and a wise decision to knock over a shelf allowed the Heroes to seize the initiative against an emerald-scaled Dragonborn Warlord and his goons. The Heroes' bold actions carried the day, though Dragonborn managed to call out one last, loud command before going down. The rest quickly fled, including the crossbow sniper and the wizard who revealed his Eladrin heritage by using Fey Step to escape. Oddly enough, there were no slaves anywhere to be seen...

2.2 Framed and Jailbreak 21-Apr-12 After resting, the Heroes searched the house with the guidance of Greenbeard the Dragonborn, and found there were Slaves in a hidden basement. Five of them had been dead for some time, and 1 was near death but saved from the brink by their efforts. Meantime, Constables representing the City Guard had been alerted to the Heroes' intrusion by the Deed holder, and came upon the Heroes. They took Greenbeard and the rescued slave into Custody. Due to the Heroes' suspicious behaviour, and the joint condemnation by both Greenbeard and the rescued Slave, the Head Constable invited the Heroes to rest in their "care", an invitation that the Heroes accepted.
After finding themselves incarcerated with their equipment, the Heroes managed to obtain the key to their cell with some skilful plotting and magical cantrips. However, instead of a discreet sneak-out, they opted for a noisy jail-break, setting off the alarms and murderously killing two of the jail guards, before rushing out into the building full of Constables to chase after the fleeing guards. They even freed some other prisoners who made a break for it too.

2.3 The Formation and the Shining Cloud 05-May-12 Amidst the alarms, the Heroes hurried into the main hall of the Constables' Headquarters, only to find their way blocked by a formation of 7 Constables. Cornered, uncoordinated and unprepared to deal with the effectiveness of the formation, the Heroes retreated back downstairs, leaving behind 2 fallen party members. One of them who had murdered a Guard previously was executed on the spot. The Heroes quickly broke open the remaining 2 cells to gaining a few more allies / fodder, before returning upstairs to the Hall. They then decided to parley with the Head Constable who acknowledged some oddities in the case, but required the party to hand over the other murderous party member, as well as the freed hooligans from the cells. The Heroes agreed and eventually chose to battle the Chief Constable Joien Merenthis* for their freedom.
The Chief Constable arrived shortly, an honorable but fearsome combatant who offered to let the Heroes rest and recover to make it a sporting challenge. In a furious fight that he seemed to enjoy, the Heroes paid dearly in blood but finally forced him to concede their prowess before letting them leave the building without further trouble. He also agreed to look into the case personally, but did not acknowledge them to be innocent. The murderous party member who had been left behind was executed and being a Noble, had her body returned to her family.
* - Joien Merenthis, Chief Constable of Berklin's West District, is the son of Lord Marlon Merenthis (from 1.3). He is a famous combatant nicknamed the Shining Cloud for his fighting style.

2.4 Fleeing Berklin & Rescuing the Captain 12-May-12 Still wanted by the Constables, the party hurried to contact Lord Marlon Merenthis, who after some reluctance and more persuasion on their part, arranged for passage from them from the city. Despite bad weather, passage was found on a mid-sized ship and the Captain padded to sail quickly. However, amidst the brewing storm the ship was boarded by Sahuagin, and the Heroes opted to stay under the deck leaving the crew to grisly deaths. Their advantageous positioning carried the day despite some nasty surprises, but they were unable to handle the ship on their own nor even free the lifeboats for their own use, resulting in the Heroes going down with the ship.
Washing ashore some time later, the Heroes eventually found each other, took a much needed rest and made their bedraggled way to the West Garrison, only to find that Capt Jan was out leading a sortie against the Orcs in the Axefold Pass. Anxious to protect their "investment", the Heroes made their way and found that some distance away, Jan and his returning men had been cut off from the Garrison by a large wave of ferocious Orcs. Battling against overwhelming numbers amidst bursts of explosive fire, the Party Leader strove desperately to keep the Heroes from the death's door while the Captain's men fell around him on the other side of the field, but by sheer prowess they finally vanquished the last of the bloodthirsty Orcs. The Captain was most grateful for their Heroic rescue and after gathering those few of his men who had survived their injuries, he and the Heroes returned to the Garrison together where he handed out their well-earned rewards.

3.0 Into the Spiderhaunt 19-May-12 The Heroes left the West Garrison to find Lady Aribeth in the elven forests nearby, and the Letter proved critical in getting them past the Elven watchmen to meet her. She explained the nearby forested area called the Spiderhaunt had recently undergone some disturbing changes, with darkening gloom and increasing fey energies. The Elves' divination had revealed the cause to be between a person and an object, but attempts to send her men to solve the problem have proved fruitless.
The Heroes asked for and were provided with flasks of flammable oil and rags, before being escorted to the Spiderhaunt to delve in on their own. After a chance encounter with 2 Trolls, the Heroes found the source of the stronger fey energies as a large spider infested cave. They managed to defeat swarms of them by using up the oil, but it looked like they might have to cut short their foray to get some much needed rest.

3.1 Beneath the Surface 02-Jun-12 The Heroes retreated and managed to avoid 2 swarms of spiders heading in their direction with some diversions and inspired hiding, before setting up their camp some distance away. During the rest, they were visited by an Elven Druid who sought an end to the corruption, and passed them a flask of scent to drive the spiders peacefully away and enter the caverns to investigate. The flask worked as promised, and the Heroes ventured into a crevice within the caves and explored the area beneath, only to be set upon by Shadow Hounds and Shadar-Kai warriors. Who knows what they were up to beneath the Spiderhaunt?

3.2 Shadowed Demesne 09-Jun-12 As the Heroes claimed their first victory, an eerie chanting drifted through the caverns, but the Heroes took their time to recover. The respite resulted in a fierce and bloody ambush sprung on the momentarily dumbfounded Heroes, but their persistence and the aid of a sickle-bearing stranger managed to turn the tide against the Shadar-Kai. The Heroes followed the sounds of chanting, and were attacked by a large Shadow Dragon lurking in the depths. Using their skills carefully, the Heroes managed to keep the beast from unleashing its full might until they could drive it deeper into the caverns, where they came upon the source of the chanting - a Shadar-Kai spellcaster shrouded in burning black flames and maintaining a portal to a dark, shadowy world on the other side. The Shadow Dragon staged its last stand to protect the Spellcaster and used its magical darkness in advantageous terrain, but the light used by a Hero dispelled the shadows and eventually they defeated the beast, causing it to roar in frustration before dissipating into black motes that streamed back through the Portal. The Heroes then easily slew the Caster and claimed the Orb that she had been using to maintain it, and also captured an irksome Dark Stalker that had tormented them... until now.
