FACTION CARDS AND GOLD

- Based on Exchange, Liberty's Edge, Scarab Sages for Season 7 : www.dropbox.com/s/4n59nyuq9is0wch/S7%20Faction%20Cards.pdf?dl=0

- After each Scenario played, inform the GM of which Box on your Faction Card that you check.
- For each Scenario played, you may check ONLY one Box, even if the Scenario fulfills the requirements for multiple Boxes. If unsure, you can ask the GM which Box is recommended, but note this is only a well-intentioned suggestion (ie I have not planned all the scenarios for Wave 2, nor am I aware which scenarios fulfill what)
- Ignore all the Boxes at the bottom entry, for "Serve as the GM for an adventure that..."

For each Box you check, you can "Cash In" a Box to gain extra Gold equal to 50% of a Scenario's gold, with the Level based on the Box you tick. You can only "Cash In" after you complete a Scenario at that Level. ie
- 1st Box you tick, gives you 50% of a Scenario's Gold at Level 1. Since we are skipping L1, this is 100 gp (not 75 because easier accounting)
- 2nd Box you tick, gives you 50% of a Scenario's Gold at Level 2.
- 3rd Box you tick, gives you 50% of a Scenario's Gold at Level 3. You only get this gold after completing the first scenario at L3.
- 4th Box you tick, gives you 50% of a Scenario's Gold at Level 4. You only get this gold after completing the first scenario at L4.
( So On So Forth )

- When "cashing in", you must tell me WHICH Box you are cashing in.

- some Boxes indicate a Level-based DC. Treat your Level as 5 for the purpose of determining these DCs. Likewise, for variable costs/value, treat Level as 5.

UNLOCKING SECOND FACTION CARD

- Each Faction Card has 7 rows/objectives, after excluding the GM row. After you have checked 6 boxes, which must be from at least 4 *separate* rows/objectives, you unlock a 2nd Faction Card (from Season 6).

- Thereafter, you may choose to check a box in either your 1st card or 2nd card. This grants more flexibility in checking Boxes.

- In the case where a player is "stalled" or otherwise having problems with his faction missions, the GM may unlock the second card and/or adjust the requirements for the entry, so that no player (who attends sessions regularly) is left too far behind.

FACTION-SPECIFIC BENEFITS

- The 2+, 4+, 7+ Goals applies specifically to each row/objective. To count as fulfilling a Goal, ALL the boxes in the row/objective must be checked.

- For each row/objective completed, specify which Faction-Specific Benefit it is applied towards.

- For applicability in the campaign, the following are the Faction-Specific Benefits as rewritten for the campaign. (see below under individual tracking for each Faction)

BOX ADJUSTMENTS

- These adjustments are due to numerical differences in the number of Boxes on the cards for each season. For S7, the Exchange has 1 more Box than Liberty's Edge and Scarab Sages. For S6, the Exchange has 2 more Boxes than the other two.

- The Exchange has "Earn at least 50 gp as the result of a Day Job check". Due to the relative ease of attempting this, you must complete BOTH Boxes in order to count as 1 Box. This applies for both the 1st Card (ie S7) and the 2nd Card (ie S6)

- The Exchange in S6 has "Visit a city other than Absalom with a population of 5,000 residents of more...". The row/objective has TWO Boxes only (instead of THREE)

- The Liberty's Edge in S6 has "Serve as a mentor... 2 Prestige Points". For simplicity, this will require spending your downtime and 500 gp to train the NPC, and the follower assistance benefit does not apply.

- The Scarab's Sages in S6 has "Recover a piece of the Numerian device known as the Sky Key, whose strange properties are of special interest to the faction leader Tahonikepsu." This box's text can be substituted with the S7 version "Recover an intact sage jewel, or convince a person to whom a sage jewel is attuned to join the Scarab Sages faction."

EXCHANGE DOWNTIME AND DAY JOB CHECK

- For the Exchange, the following activities require the use of "Downtime" at the END of a Scenario, and are thus mutually exclusive
1) ... While in the city, purchase or sell an item ...
2) Undermine a rival entrepreneur or merchant...
3) Acquire a merchant’s license in a city...
4) Attempting a Day Job check.

- For the Exchange, Day Job check is effectively the same as Profession (Merchant) check. This is its own unique skill (and not generally meaningful for anyone apart from The Exchange), which uses the highest of either your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma. The "Earn at least 50 gp..." goal is met by hitting DC 25 with a Day Job check. The "Earn at least 100 gp..." goal is met by hitting DC 35 with a Day Job check. Both checks have their DCs reduced by 5 at level 9. If you fulfill ALL of the checkboxes (on both Cards) for "Earn at least 50 gp...", the DC for the "Earn at least 100 gp" is reduced by 5.

- Multiple characters may assist one another in attempting the Profession (Merchant) check during downtime. The character attempting the check may roll first, before the other player(s) decides whether or not to assist. Multiple assistants must decide whether or not to assist, before they all make their rolls together. The assistant uses up his "Downtime" and grants either a +0 to +4 bonus based on the following DCs ( 11-, 12, 16, 20, 25). The assistant may never check a Day Job related Box while assisting. A non-Exchange character may assist, but has no skill points in Profession (Merchant), and apart from using the highest of his Intelligence/Wisdom/Charisma, this bonus is capped by his Sec Trait. ie a non-Exchange character with INT 6 but Sec Trait 5, may only assist with a 1d20 + 5 bonus.

GM Tracking for Liberty's Edge.

Season 7 Benefits
FREEDOM FIGHTER (2+): Gain a +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls against slavers. The GM may inform you are getting this bonus, this information is learnt when you first attack, but is typically based on uncovered information.
UNDERCOVER EMANCIPATOR (4+): Sec Trait times per scenario, you may gain half Sec Trait ability bonus to Disguise, Sleight of Hand, Stealth or Survival check. You decide to use this bonus before you roll.
LIBERATOR (7+*): Whenever you or your ally you can see spends 1 WP to reroll a saving throw or an escape check, he may choose to either reroll the result or add half your Sec Trait to it. Having more than one Liberator in your party allows both these options. You may also spend 1 WP to cause enemies to reroll attack rolls that dominate, entangle, immobilise, slow, or stun you (or any attack roll that the GM agrees to), and you gain half Sec Trait to that defense against the reroll (ie not against the original roll). You have 1 extra WP that can only be used for rerolls related to above, or can be used to grant an ally you can see a reroll to saving throw or escape check.

Season 6 Benefits
FREEDOM FIGHTER II (2+): Double the bonus from the first.
ABOLITIONIST (4+): You summon (not conjure) a freed slave as an allied Minion of your Level plus half your Sec Trait. They have speed 6 and only have Melee Basic Attacks with a melee weapon. You may use a move action to summon 1, or a standard action to summon as many as you can. Regardless, you can only summon up to half Sec Trait freed slaves per scenario. You may use them in skill checks and they last for a scene, but if so used you must summon all of them at once. You can ask the GM about their skills before doing so.
LIBERATOR II (7+*): The half Sec Trait bonus from Liberator is replaced by your Sec Trait. The extra 1 WP is doubled, so becomes 2. If you do not have Liberator, you gain that benefit first.

* - Note the S6 Liberty's Edge card has only 6 goals. The first Liberator (be it S6 or S7) requires 7 Goals, and the second requires 6 Goals.

2.1 Defy local law or tradition in a way that assists you and your allies without endangering the mission or threatening innocents. (GOAL) used
2.2 In a region where slavery is legal, deliver a speech against tyranny, slavery, or corruption to a crowd of at least 20 participants. Succeed at a Diplomacy or Perform (acting, comedy, or oratory) check with a DC equal to 15 plus your character level. (GOAL) used
3.1 Defeat a known slaver whose Challenge Rating is at least equal to your character level. For the purposes of this goal, use the definition of slaver from the Freedom Fighter reward. (GOAL) used
3.2 Forgo your Downtime to nonviolently fight for the cause of liberty by spending time organizing protests, freeing slaves, or distributing revolutionary material. To do so, you must succeed at a Disable Device, Knowledge (local), or Stealth check with a DC equal to 15 plus your character level. (GOAL) used
4.1 After being grappled or physically bound by an opponent, escape with an Escape Artist, Strength, or combat maneuever check. Alternatively, after failing a save against a spell or effect with the compulsion descriptor, end the effect with a subsequent save. (GOAL) used
4.2 Adventure in two of the following locations: Andoran, Cheliax, Okeno, Magnimar, or Nirmathas.
5.1 S6 In a region where slavery is legal, deliver a speech against tyranny, slavery, or corruption to a crowd of at least 20 participants. Succeed at a Diplomacy or Perform (acting, comedy, or oratory) check with a DC equal to 15 plus your character level. (GOAL) used
6.1 Liberate one or more slaves, captives, or hostages during an adventure.

GM Tracking for Scarab Sages.

Season 7 Benefits
SCRIBE (2+): You gain a special scarab that gradually stores your memories and guards your life force. The gem grants
a +1 bonus to death saving throws and defenses against death/insta-kill effects. For every two faction benefits that you complete (apart from S6 and S7 Scribe), you gain an additional +1 bonus, which stacks. This maxes out at +3, ie +1 base, +1 from Soul Warden + Guardian Ward/Soul Bastion, and another +1 from Guardian Ward/Soul Bastion + Sage Candidate.
SOUL WARDEN (4+): Your scarab increases your HP for determining when you would die from hit point damage by your Sec Trait. If you permanently die, you can donate your scarab to another of your characters that belongs to the Scarab Sages faction. This character receives this card (discarding her current card).
GUARDIAN WARD (7+): You are skilled at defending yourself and your allies against constructs and undead — common sentinels in Osirian ruins. You gain an aura 2, which grants you and all allies +1 bonus to all defenses against such foes. This bonus is doubled if you can identify the creature. Note as per regular aura rules, if you fall unconscious the aura is deactivated and must be reactivated with a swift action.

Season 6 Benefits
SCRIBE (2+): The bonus from your S7 Scribe is doubled, but may not exceed your Sec Trait - 1.
SOUL BASTION (4+): You gain a bonus to Reserve Value equal to your Sec Trait, which does not stack with sources apart from Role feats. The benefit from Soul Warden is doubled to twice Sec Trait.
SAGE CANDIDATE (7+): Your aura from Guardian Ward increases to half Sec Trait, and your allies in the aura also benefit from your S7 Scribe benefit. If you identify the construct or undead creature, the defensive bonus is increased to half your Sec Trait instead of +2. When not in combat, you may increase your aura 2 to aura Sec Trait, but the numerical benefits of the aura are halved (round down as usual). If you do not have Guardian Ward, you gain that benefit first.

Remarks: Double Box on 3.2 for purpose of compensating of lost sessions 3.1 and 2.1 respectively.

Profession(Merchant) Ratings : Azu +6 (5Cha 1Sp), Marra +7 (3Cha 4Sp)
Note you use Profession (Merchant) also when applying Appraise

Season 7 Benefits
INVESTOR (2+) : After a scenario, you may purchase an item at a 5%10% discount, or 10%20% discount if you use your downtime to make a Profession (Merchant) check against DC equal to 15 + twice Item Level. (This check can be assisted as per Day Job rules). You may purchase items for another player's character which is present for the scenario, but the other character gets at least a 5% discount. You may do this Sec Trait times.
SHOWMANSHIP (4+) : Sec Trait times per scenario, you can use Profession (Merchant) in place of an Arcana, Engineering, History, Thievery check.
TYCOON (7+) : The DC for the Investor benefit is reduced to 12 + Item Level. If you beat the DC by 5 (including after receiving assistance), you do not use up your Downtime. Before the start of each scenario, you receive 250 gp that you or your party can spend on bribes, consumables, misc expenses, etc. You lose the gold and the items purchased left over at the end of the scenario, unless the item is a consumable where a player spent at least 80% of the consumable cost using his/her own gold.

Season 6 Benefits
ENTREPRENEUR (2+) : Once per scenario, you may purchase an item at a 5%10% discount. This stacks with similar benefits. You may purchase items for another player's character which is present for the scenario, but the other character gets at least a 5% discount. You may do this Sec Trait times. Once per scenario, you may gain a +5 Circumstance bonus to a Day Job check, but if you use this benefit you may not use the above 5%10% discount benefit during the same scenario.
ASSOCIATE (4+) : You may take a loan from NPCs to purchase or upgrade an item of up to 1 level higher than you. Discounts from the Exchange do not apply to this case. You may borrow no more than Sec Trait x 5% of the item value. While you have the loan, all your earnings are immediately used to pay off the loan. You may take a new loan after paying off an old one.
CHAIRPERSON (7+) : The ENTREPRENEUR benefits increase to 10%20% discount and +10 respectively, and you can use it for any Profession (Merchant) checks, not just Day Job checks.

FAQ

Q: Can I use the faction discounts when upgrading a magic item?
A: No. It is only when purchasing a magic item.

Q: Does this mean buying a new item at that level can be cheaper than upgrading a pre-existing item?
A: Yes. And the old one can be sold off at the usual price, ie 50% of its cost.

For avoidance of doubt, if your character dies and does not come back, your Faction Cards and check Boxes are all lost, unless they can be transferred due to a Faction benefit.

The new character will have to fill up Boxes accordingly to cash in the gold, but at GM discretion, he may be allowed to check more than 1 Box per scenario, as and when applicable. This continues until he has at least as many Boxes filled up as the character that died, and at least as many Boxes filled up as his current level.

Spare Checkbox (for ALL, 11 Feb 2021 - Serpent's Rise) : This box contributes to gold accumulation but never counts towards any goal. It can be used once, typically for any scenario where the player is unable to check a box.

Mulligan Checkbox (5.2 for Exchange, 6.1 for Scarab Sages) : This box contributes to gold accumulation, and can also count as one checkbox towards a goal. It can be used once, typically for any scenario where the player is unable to check a box.

For those that have gone some considerable distance in achieving their Faction Goals, if you don't enjoy the nitty gritty tracking (which I'm also not tracking anymore for the whole party), the following option is available

- You gain the 3 faction benefits from Season 7
- When you level up and get gold, you always count as having your first checkbox, up to level 17.
- You may use your Downtime to assist anyone else in the party as required, but always prioritising those from your Faction first.

From Level 18 onwards, gold will be re-normalised, so those with Checkboxes will get extra gold, but those without will have no drawback from the usual gold progression.
