CAMPAIGN OVERVIEW
Arc 1.1 to 1.3 Goblins
Heroes start in the city of Zeychand, in the west of in the Shian Empire. A grain merchant named Ronel hires them to solve a grain over-supply problem, possibly by contaminating granary silos. After staking out the place at night, the heroes decided to instead find the owners and tie them up with the local military to take it off market by negotiating a huge discount.
They then left Zeychand to escort military supplies for the West Garrison, and fought off goblin raiders. After successfully delivering the caravan to the West Garrison, they were briefed by Lt Bowen that the goblins seemed to know the caravan movements, making him believe they were in league with other powers.
The heroes then left and tracked the goblins to their den, which strangely was in the territory of the elven kingdom on the west of the Empire. While eliminating the goblins, they found the goblins had large cache of human military gear, such as uniforms and weapons. However, after the goblins were all defeated, an elven military patrol that was clearly already aware of the goblin den claimed most of the equipment, and only let the heroes return with some supplies.
Arc 2.1 to 2.3 Slavers
The heroes reported their findings back to the West Garrison, and managed to uncover an elven spy within the human garrison. They decided to move on away from tricky border issues, and heard word of missing people in the nearby port village of Flotsam. They uncovered a slaver operation and freed the slaves, but the leader, a halfling named Kray, managed to escape after gunning down the party's ranger then fleeing via the rooftop.
Encouraged by the village elder Caldwick about a reward to take out the Kray Brothers, the heroes left Flotsam for the capital of Berklin via sea. Along the way they encountered tiefling pirates from the Red Scorn, who they learnt from the local village were oppressing the locals and were looking to rise up against the Empire and restore their annexed kingdom of Kal Terath. Unsure of potential profit, they pushed onward to Berklin.
Arc 3.1 to 3.4 Berklin
The heroes arrived in Berklin and slew a slaver in the backalleys behind the Red Mansion inn after finding out who he was working for. The employer turned out to be a well connected eladrin (aka high elf) called Telchannar, who directed them to the Assassins' guild where they might be able to find the Kray Brothers. They decided to just stake out and break into the Assassins' Guild, robbing them, freeing a prisoner, and finding signs of a constable who had died in captivity there.
From there they linked up with the Chief Constable called Joien Merenthis, who had lost some of his men to slavers and assassins. He asked them to help him find one of his missing men and they went back to the Red Mansion, where this time they saw the Telchannar enjoying the company of and watching over a large bevy of slaves. They got Joien to bring his men in for a raid, distracting most of the bouncers and guards while they tried to take out Telchannar. After a nasty battle where the eladrin almost escaped, they turned him in and in searching the place, Joien also rescued his subordinate.
Arc 4.1 to 4.5 Busted
The heroes learnt to their dismay that Telchannar was well connected, being the brother of the mayor's adviser, and the evidence against him was not strong, so Chief Joien had to let him go. They then got Joien's help to set up a trap and take out the Kray brothers, then interrogated them to close down another slaver operation run by a fat slaver named Boris.
They uncovered evidence pointing to the financier being Nerinia Kystada, who they soon learnt was the niece of Mirian Kystada, one of the two magistrates of Berklin, and a member of the noble Kystada family. They also learnt one among their number - Darius Black - was somehow related to the Kystada family. Chief Joien Merenthis was himself reluctant to act against her, for she was an old flame, and after a failed attempt by the heroes to get dirt on her in person, they decided to leave the whole torrid affair behind and move on to the military in the east, with Joien penning a glowing letter of recommendation.
