Artifact
The Orb has no resale value for gold purposes.
=======
ORB OF KRADGAR
Level 10 Implement Critical: 1d12 (instead of 1d6) As a free action when attacking with it, you can cause half its damage to be Radiant, Psychic or Necrotic. You gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls. 1/Level (Free Action): Your attacks with it deal Radiant, Psychic or Necrotic in addition to its usual damage type, as if Admixture applies, until End of Encounter.
When not in combat, you may combine another magical orb implement into the Orb of Kradgar, and benefit from its properties. This implement can be extracted from the orb (and sold/replaced).
UPGRADING When not in combat, you may combine two Orbs of Kradgar to increase its Level by 5. If the party has more than one Orb of Kradgar, only one Orb functions.
Level 15: The +2 bonus to damage rolls increases to +3. While your Expertise is below 5, your attack and damage rolls are 1 higher. 1/Level (Free Action when you hit with an attack): Your damage dice for the attack are automatically maximised.
Level 20: The +3 bonus to damage rolls increases to +4. While your Expertise is below 5, your attack and damage rolls are 2 higher. While your Expertise is equal to 5, your attack and damage are 1 higher. Your attacks with it deal Radiant, Psychic or Necrotic in addition to its usual damage type, as if Admixture applies (and the initial 1/Level ability is no longer relevant as always on) You may combine a second magical implement into the Orb and benefit from its properties.

In visions, you see yourself atop a tall spire in a dark world, that you recognise as the Shadowfell.
You seem to be performing a ritual, and below the spire, a captive Shadow Dragon is restrained at the base of the spire, in a ritual circle with four (4) Orbs floating and orbiting around it.
As you watch the Orbs seem to draw the darkness out of the captive Shadow Dragon, and fill it with light, and from the clouds above, at first a small beam then more, sunlight starts to fill this realm.
There is a sudden impact from behind and you feel wrenching pain as you are struck, half turning around to see another Shadow Dragon, enraged and somehow familiar, before youre falling, falling, falling from on high towards where the Ritual Circle is...
======
Suddenly you feel you're looking out of a window in a tower. As you look out, the view goes out and higher. You recognise a tower in a fenced grand estate grounds in the north district of Berklin.

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Mao peered into the Orb while in the presence of Lord Marlon and some of the other elven spellcasters present.
In the first vision, it seems obvious this is how Kradgar met his end.
The Ritual seemed aimed to shift a portion of that Shadowfell plane, or more, into a different of plane of light.
You think it might be something for the good of the inhabitants, such as freeing them from that dark domain in Shadowfell, to a place with less shadow and undead creatures. That said, the ritual is naturally not to the liking of those in charge of the plane.
The second vision probably gives the location of one of the Orbs within this plane.
